What to put on a landscaping invoice

An invoice that answers the client’s questions gets paid faster. Here’s what yours should show.

  1. Your business details

    Your business name and phone number, plus any license your state asks for, such as an irrigation or pesticide applicator license if you do that work.

  2. The property and the dates

    The service address and the date of each visit. For maintenance, list each visit so the client can match them to what they saw.

  3. Materials by the unit

    Mulch, soil and rock by the yard, sod by the pallet or square foot, and plants by size and count. Clients understand a unit price.

  4. Labor

    Crew hours at your rate, or a flat price per visit or per job.

  5. Haul-away and disposal

    Green waste and debris removal on its own line, if you charge for it.

  6. Sales tax, if it applies

    Some states tax landscaping services as well as materials, so ask your accountant what applies where you work.

  7. Due date and how to pay

    A due date and the ways the client can pay.
